Data acquired in our sandbox with DETEC-2

We have buried in the loamy soil section of our sandbox nine objects (mainly antipersonnel mines, stone, metallic debris). These objects have been laid some months ago and the soil has not been disturbed since then (if you bury an object just before making the acquisition, you will also see reflections caused by the soil disturbance). To have a more realistic situation, we tried to cultivate some grass on the soil; but to be honnest the result is not exceptional (the building where the sandbox is located is not very sunny and Fredo is not a very good gardener...).

Most of the mines are actual mines without the detonator charge and with the TNT replaced by RTV3112 silicon rubber, which have similar dieletric characteristics.

For the moment only two objects are available and, due to a bug in an early version of the DETEC-2 software, the files are only available in S format. We will redo the acquisitions with the corrected software and with more objects soon.

To save a file click with the right button on the corresponding link and select "Save as..." or go to our FTP server (diftp.epfl.ch) under the /pub/detec/detec2/ directory.

Click on the pictures to have more information on the actual buried object.

The "example" images are actual DETEC-2 screen results. The gain of these images has been choosen by hand to have a clear view of the object, so the response of the different objects cannot be compared using these example images.

(*) The pictures of the PMA-1A and PMA-2 don't show the actual buried object, but comes from the MineFact CD-ROM (in fact we forgot to take pictures of these two mines before burying them...)
